Maui has some of the best beaches in Hawaii. White sand, black sand, and a mixture of color is found on our beaches here on Maui. We have included a few of the favorite beaches. You may also visit our printable map for more beaches and thei locations.
West Maui beaches- Maui has
miles and miles of fantastic beaches and coral reefs. There are beaches
for every level of swimming ability from very beginner to professional.
Some great family beaches are 14 Mile Marker,
which is just south of Olowalu. This long stretch of white sand
beach is gently sloping. It's a great location for beginners and non swimmers.
The reef system is in very shallow water, so everyone can enjoy it. The
only disadvantage is there are no facilities there. You'll need to bring
everything. Kahekili Beach Park (Old Airport Beach) is located just
North of Kaanapali. The street name is Puukolii. This park has shaded picnic
& BBQ areas, grass, beach, showers, bathrooms, etc... It's really a
fantastic area. The reef system is only 4ft to 30 ft for the first area
and 45ft to 65 ft for the second, making it a great snorkel and dive location.
Turtles are found North of the park. Stop by the shop for specific underwater
landmark directions. This is another park great for kids and non-swimmers.
Black Rock is located at the Sheraton Hotel in Kaanapali. This area
does experience high currents on occasion and should be limited to moderate
to
advanced
swimmers. The turtles are located on the North point of the Rock. Kapalua
Bay is located between the Kapalua Bay Hotel and the Ritz Carleton.
This beach as been rated #! in the world for quality. The protected nature
of the bay makes it a great location for all levels.
South Maui Beaches- Ulua
Bay is near the Renaissance Hotel. You will find a sign that says Ulua
beach access. This unique reef system is a favorite for all levels. The
minute you enter the water you will see fish. Turtles can often be found
on the Northern side. This area has restrooms, showers, and a restaurant
area. Further down the road you will find
Makena
Beach Park. This area is also rated beginner to
intermediate. Parking is located just before the restroom. The beach on
the south side is known as Big Beach. On the north side Little beach. Little
beach is known for its lack
of clothed individuals. Don't be surprised if you follow a turtle around
the point and meet a pale homo sapien on the other side. One of the best
locations in the south side is Ahihi Bay. This fish preserve has
abundant life. The ease of entry makes it a favorite location for snorkelers,
but be advised that there is no beach here.
